Who may need to supplement

As we get older, our need for vitamin D increases. We spend less time outside and our kidneys are not as good at converting it as they were in younger years. Those that may benefit from vitamin D supplements includes:

  • Older adults
  • Those living in northern climates
  • Those who do not go outside regularly

If your Vitamin D levels are low you may need a higher dose of supplement. For most adults a dose of 5,000 IU daily is an adequate dose. Check with your dietitian or doctor before starting or changing supplements.
